Instrument Rating An Instrument rating qualifies a pilot to fly solely by reference to aircraft instruments. This rating is important for EMS pilots and pilots of off-shore companies who fly during all weather conditions. It is also required by most insurance companies for commercial flying. The minimum requirements for an Instrument helicopter rating are a Private helicopter certificate and 40 hours of instrument training. 20 of those hours may be completed in a simulator. We recommend combining the training for the Instrument with your commercial training. By using these 40 hours to build towards the 150 required for the Commercial certificate, will ensure your time and money has been invested as efficiently as possible. We offer two ways to obtain this rating, the Schweizer 300CBi and the Robinson R-44 Raven II.
